Perhaps it will interest Palmerston folk to know that the original mover of the water suppy scheme of our neighbouring town resides in Foxton, in the person of Mr G. Nye. He suggested the source from whence the water should be obtained and supplied valuable information as the subjoined letter will explain Being in the employ of the Government at the time, however, he did not desire to be identified with the movement. Here is a copy of a letter written by the late R. Teary 24 years ago: Palmerston N. May 20,1884. Mr Nye.
Sir-—I just drop you a line to tell you the result ot the action taken re the water scheme which you suggested. My brother as you know moved in the Borough Council that steps be taken to secure the site as a reserve. After that the article found its way to one or two newspapers. Having appeared in one it was copied into another, and the idea was warmly commended, to my knowledge, by several who are supposed to know something about such things. Finally the Government have replied to the application made by the Council, granting the request. The approaches to the Tiritea are therefore set apart as a Water reserve. This is satisfactory is it not ? We could not have wished a more speedy and satisfactory effect to be produced by the ball which you made and someone else kicked.—Youry Truly, R. T/eAry.
