A meeting ot subscribers of the Foxton Building Society will be held in Mr Perreau’s rooms on Tuesday evening next at 7.30 o’clock sharp.

A great attraction at the forthcoming bazaar will be the flower stall with exhibits from the well-known nurserymen, Messrs Wighton. : Mr Walker, Secretary of the Fielding centre of the New Zealand Athletic Union will be in Foxton to-night to register competitors for to-morrow’s sports, ; The Secretary ' of \ the Athletic Club desires to acknowledge with thanks receipt of contributions from Messrs A. The s.s. Baden Powell met with an accident to her rudder yesterday, through it coming into contact with an obstruction. Her departuie has therefore been delayed id order tb repair the slight damage.
The Athletic club committee is leaving no stone unturned to make the Sports gathering tomorrow a huge success. All arrangement are being carefully attended to and the track is reported to be in capital order. The Borough Brass Band will discourse music at intervals, during the day. Lovers of athletic events will, witness some very exciting racing.
A corked bottle containing another message was picked up-on the beach on Tuesday last by a local resident, who brought it along to this office in order that the contents might be revealed. At the inquest as to the death of William Wilson, killed by contact with a live electric wire near Mirama wharf on Saturday, the jury found that death was acci dental, though there was evidence that the wire had, been suspended too low.
Amongst the trophies on exhibition in Messrs Sutherland and Rough’s window is the aggregate points prize cup, presented for competition by the Moutoa Estate syndicate. It is a magnificent trophy, and should cause keen competition
At the Carterton Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Geo, A. Fairbrother was charged on the information of the Law Society with acting as conveyancer contrary to the provisions of the Law Practitioners Act, and was fined by Mr W. P. James £s, with costs 17s. Leave to appeal was given. We would suggest that the newly formed Foxton Club approach the Minister for Justice, through Mr Stevens, with a view of securing the old courthouse in order to convert it into a club room. It would then be made respectable, and not an insult to the town’} and a dis grace to the department, which it now is.

Baker to take charge commit-, teemen’s tent; boundary riders,' Messrs Howe and Hadfield. It is hardly necessary to finally j remind readers of the Athletic j concert to-morrow evening. The. special draw is “ Ranelli,” whose conjuring and fire-eating feats are alone worth the price of admisr 1 sion. Besides Ranelli, other new , faces to Foxton audiences are' Geo. A well attended meeting of local residents was held in Mr M. Perrau’s room on Tuesday evening to discuss the advisability of forming a club. The Mayor was voted to the chair. After a general discussion it was unanimously carried that a club be formed to be called the Foxton Club. A committee was appointed to make investigations in respect to rooms, or a suitable building and tp furnish a report next week. Mr Rae-Howard was elected Secretary and treasurer. Annual subscription was held over -till next meeting as also the question of securing a billiard table. It was explained that drinking and gambling would be strictly prohibited. The usual compliment to the chair concluded the meeting.
