The Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1906. LAND VALUES.
A recent visitor to Foxton informed us that he could buy land on the fringe of the Wellington city boundary at a more reasonable price than what is now being asked for local building sites. He is of opinion that the price of land in the borough is far too inflated. We agree with him. To our knowledge several people who would haye stettled : here have been frightened away by reason of the fabulous prices asked for land. It is far better to quit waste- buil n ing sites now at a fair profit tha
to hold on and perhaps get nipped by a slump. Anyhow, we urge that the valuator be asked to amend the valuation’ list to the owners valuation in order that the' ratepayers may have the benefit of the increased rates. At a later period we shall quote certain properties without mentioning names, showing the present rateable values and the selling price asked for the land. If the land is really worth the price now being asked for it. then surely it is but just to all that it should be rated at that valuation.
