A SERIOUS CHARGE.
Palmerston, Yesterday,
At the Palmerston Police .Court yesterday morning Susan Cole was charged that on or about the month of June last, at Palmerston North she used certain instruments upon one Agnes Maughan, a married woman, with intent to procure abortion. Accused was represented by Mr C. E. Harden. The police asked for a remand for eight days, as the woman alleged to have been operated upon was now hovering between life and death. Bail would be refused. The remand, as asked for, would be granted. Accused will be kept in the Wanganui prison in the meantime. Later. Agnes Maughan' died at 8.15 tonight. Deceased, who was married, it is alleged, on Monday last, while lying at a nursing home. Her parents, it is believed, are residents of Taihape.
