THREATENING THE PREMIER.
Accused Pleads Guilty.
Auckland, Nov. 7
William Stephenson Aickeu was charged with sending a threatening letter to Sir Joseph Ward before the Police Court this morning.
James Hislop, the Premier’s Secretary, gave evidence that the letter was received by Sir Joseph Ward at Oaraaru, on October id. Accused pleaded guilty. In Tanswer to a request that accused should be released on bail the Crown Prosecutor said he would consent on condition that the sureties were very substantial. The offence was a serious one. Accused had been shadowed by the police for many months. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £SOO each. Accused was ordered not to leave the province, and to report himself to the police at 5 p.m. daily, The sureties were forthcoming.
