ADVANCE FOXTON.

N.Z. Shipping Coy’s New Grading Store. The New Zealand Shipping Qo.'s new grading store which is to occupy the site of Mr Symons’ fine residence will be one of the largest buildings in the district. ’ , The area covered gives a frontage of 93 feet, and extends to the rear a distance of one hundred and eighty feet, with a back measurement of one hundred and ten feet. The front \ will have an imposing appearance and has two pair of la'rge sliding doors and large office windows. The large extent of frontage is broken by heavy capped pilasters, with deep frieze and projecting cornice, finished over with three sign pediments and flagpole. The railway siding enters the building at the right hand side and runs to the rear ending close to the present right-of-way, and alongside of spacious engine room / and gas generator. The roof, which is formed with heayy principal rafters is supported with two rows of storey posts, and the whole store is lighted by three rows of Wades patent skylights— 30 in all, each measuring gft x 6ft. The offices* which occupy a central position in the front of the building, provide for a large public office with usual office fittings and a private office for the local manager of the Company. The partitions between office and store are glazed and from this position a full view of the store and workings can be obtained. Adjoining the engine room are the usual necessary offices and lavatory and a complete water system is to being installed, all connected to a sceptic tank which will be built outside the building. The contract price for this work is ,£2549, the successful contractors being a Wellington firm. Mr J. W. Rough is the architect. The above building and the one in contemplation by another large firm, is evidence that Foxton is at last being recognised as an important commercial centre.
