VALEDICTORY.

A farewell social (euchre and dancing) was tendered by the local Masonic lodge to Wor. Bro, ,Haywood in the Masonic Hall last night. Despite the very inclement weather there was a, large attendance of the brethren accompanied by their wives and lady friends. The lodge could not allow Wor. Bro. Haywood, who has carried otiMhe secretarial duties with such marked ability, to leave the town without an appreciation of the ' esteem an which he is held. At a suitable juncture W. M. Bro. Stewart, in an eulogistic speech, presented Wor. Bro.‘ Haywood with a gold malfese cross, encircled with a wreath of honour and forget-me-nots, and on a raised centre Masonic emblems. On thd: reverse side the token was suitably .engraved. Past Masters Glemet&md Fraser endorsed the remarks of the ptevious speaker and the kindliest feelings were expressed towards Mrs and Miss Haywood. Bro. Haywood suitably acknowledged the gift. After concluding bis remarks the company sang lustily “ For they are jolly good fellows/’ winding up with cheers for-.the Haywood family. Refreshments supplied on a liberal scale were partaken of and the remainder of the evening was taken up with dancing to the music supplied bV Mr Berthold. ' ‘ •
