Attention is directed to the Show advertisement of the Manawatu- and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The extensive displays in all departments of live stock, poultry, dogs, art, and home industries, are so comprehensive and the merits of the competitions so judiciously distributed over the three days it is no wonder that the fixture has become exceptionally popular and attracts thousands every, year. The Association during the year has been adding to the Show buildings and the huge amount of covered space with the stands make the ground with, o ,*t doubt far and away the best in the coiony.

An extraordinary freak of fate has resulted in the death of Abraham Rethmeyer, of New York. He was 73 years old .and became obsessed with the idea thait when he was dead and buried his grave would be desecrated by bodysnatchers. He did not believe in cremation, and so he had made for himself a heavy metal coffin with a strong lock on it. The casket was delivered at his house a short time ago, and he had it placed On end in his room. He took especial delight in inspecting it daily. Often he would get up in the night to make sure it was still there. Not long ago he wished to move it a little, and while ; doing this the metal box fell upon him, crushing him to death. It looked almost like a grim joke upon the part ,of Death. ■ -'j
