MURDEROUS ASSAULT.

Melbourne, Nov. 4

A young man named Johnstone has been arrested on a charge of committing a murderous assault on three wdmen named Patterson in South Melbourne.

Johnstone had been keeping company with the younger woman, and her mother and elder sister remonstrated with him for insulting behaviour, whereupon, it is alleged, he . assaulted all three women with a bar of iron, Mrs Patterson, who is 76 years of age, is not expected to recover.
