Auckland, Oct. 31

At the Police Court to-day, John Cmnell, with several aliases, ■-admitted obtaining £3 12s at Kakaramea from Arthur Shirley, and goods to the value of £1 11s 6d from C. P. Fredrickson, of Mangakuaka, by means of valueless cheques. Asked why he had committed the. offence, accused said he only " broke out like this ” wjien lie had had a drink. His Worlhip said that he thoughaccused was a tit subject for an indet terminate sentence, and remanded him so that inquiries could be made as to whether the indeterminate clauses of the Habitual Criminals and Offenders Act, 1906, was applicable.
