VALEDICTORY.

A very pleasant function took place at Mr M. Perreau’s rooms this afternoon when Guard Carroll who was recently removed from the (Foxton section to Woodville, was presented with an illuminated Address by the Mayor on behalf of residents of Foxton, and a silver tea service to Mrs Carroll. There was a fair number of residents present and the Mayor presided. After the health of the guest had been honoured the Mayor in an eulogistic speech made the presentation. Mr Carroll in a few well chosen remarks suitably acknowledged the address and service on behalf of himself and wife. The following is the text of the address “ We, the residents of Foxton, feel that we cannot allow you to leave us without expressing our sorrow at the severence of the pleasant relations that have always existed between us. While expressing our admiration and esteem for the impartial and corteous manner in which you have always discharged the responsible duties of your position, we venture to hope the change may be to that material advantage which your past services so amply merit. In conclusion we wish yourself, Mrs Carroll and family all prosperity and happiness in your new nome.- Kia Ora. On behalf of your numerous f riends we beg to subscribe; ourselves.” Here follow twelve signatures.
