THE CHINESE SQUABBLE.

The Case Dismissed. At the local S.M. Court this morning before Dr. Bennett and Thos, Rimmer, Esq., J’s.P., Lung Wong was charged on reniand with causing bodily harm to Young Dee on the afternoon of the 17th inst. Accused has been incarcerated since that date. Accused was represented by Mr Moore.- Constable Whitehouse conducted the case on .behalf of the police. The services of a very, indifferent interpreter from Palmerston North was secured. The facts of the case have already been stated, ip /these columns and briefly are as follows. Accused loaned Lee three sacks and the latter returned two. The pair became heated and in ■ a scuffle that ensued Dee received a slight wound on one of his fingers from a knife held by accused. Dee Tuen heard the pair quarrelling and when he saw the scuffle took the knife away from accused. Dee informed the police who arrested accused, The evidence submitted was of a very conflicting nature. The accused was not put in the box. Mr Moore in a very able address to the Bench literally tore the evidence to pieces and characterised the whole affair as trivial, and that the case should go before a jury as preposterous. The Bench agreed that there was not sufficient evidence to commit accused for trial and dismissed the case.
