BOATING ITEMS.

[By Waterfowl.]

Coach Petersen’s stroke has rived and I fancy that our worthy secretary must be in league with him, as I saw him having a trial spin with them at Duncan’s Bend this morning. Ido not know if they had the watch on. However, mine broke. Coach Grace, —and sure he is no disgrace-only carrying six passengers in order to put the finishing touches on his crew. Fellow competitors, beware of this juvenile pair, as they show a willing heart and strong right arms to pull such a load. Skipper Gordon rested his crew on Sunday morning. Rumour has it that one of his cracks has broken down. Sarely this is a good tip, as in looking Bver sporting. records, I find likely' whiners usually are reported* to have broken down a few days prior to tiie event. Ladies, take my advice and do not listen to rumour. Coach McDonald is still keeping his crew in steady work, with just occasional sprinting. Am pleased to say they are improving very fast and should take some watching on Wednesday. Ladies, watch the crew very carefully on Wednesday that will be rowing in blue and white rowing costumes as I fancy they are the vice-captain’s “dark horses.” Sunday morning saw the river quite lively, all the club’s boats being in great demand. ' The sterner sex turned out in full force. I am pleased to say the colts, several of whom were out for the first time this season, shaped very well and with a little more practice should turn out fair oarsmen, Gordon stroke, Gardner tow, Were out in the outriggers, but did not go very far as the water was rather rough for pair oared rowing. I am watching anxiously to see some of the colts out in the outriggers. . Messrs Shields and Littlejohn are shaping well in the sculls and should cause trouble bn Wednesday next. '
