The Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1906. THE NEW STREET.

We are pleased to state that there is a possibility of the Borough Council and Messrs Easton and Austin coming to a mutual agreement in reference to the continuation of Whyte Street to Jonson Street through Messrs Easton and Austin's property. As we pointed out in our last issue it would not be in the interests of the town to allow this most important work to haug fire as the Council would ultimately come out at the wrong end of the horn. The concrete culvert at the intersection of the proposed new road and Jonson Street is the obstacle. To construct a culvert would cost, roughly, ,£3OO and to expect Messrs Easton and Austin to bear the cost of this extraordinary work is on the face of it iniquitous. We hope the Council will overcome the hitch as we feel sure Messrs Easton and Austin are prepared to meet them in a Tair and reasonable manner.
