THAT NEW STREET.

[to the editor.] Sir- —lt has often been remarked that our borough Council doesn’t posses much backbone and up till last meeting I thought so too. But I will now take it all back as I reckon they’re improving. When I read your paper last issue about that proposed new road Mr Austin wants fixed up, and the conditions which the Council imposed and stuck to, I could have shouted beers all round for the Council. I hope they will stick to their guns and not alter the conditions. There are some people in this town of ours who fancy they have only to hold up their little finger and everybody must bow 7 the head. I have heard it said that people even boast they can buy and sell the whole blooming place, and I guess its about time they was put in their place and had their tails twisted. If people want to increase the value of their land by putting a road through which the people have to. maintain, I say let it be done properly. Its generally the way, sir, that those who have got most money want to spend the least' for the welfare of the town. Well done Councillors, I hope you will always study the welfare of the many as against the greed of the few. Hoping you will publish this letter, —I am, etc., Glory Hole.
