A gold pin with small chain and nut attached is advertised for Valued as a keepsake. Reward. A committee meeting of the Foxton Racing Club is called for to-momnv evening. The Rev. Mr Spiers will preach his farewell sermon at Foxton on Sunday evening, November nth. The congregational meeting for members and adherents of the local Presbyterian Church for the purpose of electing a committee of management will be held at 7.30 this evening. The Rev. I. Jolly will preside. A meeting of the Foxton Borough Band was held on Saturday evening. The Bandmaster (Mr Ebbet) presided. A quantity of general business was dealt with after which Mr James Simpson was elected,Hon. Secretary. An advertisment appears in another column stating that all accounts will in future be rendered to him.
At,the S, M. Court yesterday morning before Messrs Dr. Sennet and Alf. Fraser J’s P. William Hutchinson was charged with being drunk and procuring liquor whilst .prohibited. On the first, charge he was convicted and discharged and fined 20/- or seven days imprisonment on the second. The Marlborough Herald, in an account of the Blenheim boating disaster, says : One touching incident has for its central figure a baby, two years of age— the child of Mrs Jackson. It is related that as the mother sank the child remained floating on the surface, and commenced beating the water with its little arms, and thus paddling towards the shore. Whether or ‘not the baby reached land of its own account is not ascertainable, but it is believed that at least it traversed a considerable part of the .distance. The funeral of the late Mr Leonard Langley, late of the firm of Langley Bros., took place on Sunday afternoon leaving the residence of Mr G. Langley, Russell Street. Mourners were present from all parts of the district including Otaki and Palmerston to pay their last respects to the departed. The Foxton Borough Band headed the cortege and played the “ dead march ” and one or two other sacred selections. The Rev. Mr Southern conducted the impressive service at the graveside. The coffin was covered with floral tributes. In another column the members of deceased’s family tender their thanks to all who sent messages of sympathy, etc.
