■ A Costly Contest. , Nkw York, Oct. 9. Spectators of the Vanderbilt Cup motor race cut wire-netting which had been erected to protect the course, and recklessly relused to move until the cars were almost upon them. The race cost altogether 000. Ihe seventeen cars engaged cost ,£85,000, American cars were outclassed.
