INDECENT PICTURES.
Judgment Reserved. Auckland, September 29. The “Psyche” cases were resumed at the Police Court this morning. George Bower Cignell was charged with having sold an indecent picture, to wit a picture of “Psyche at the Bath,” and Leonard Warrance, another picture dealer, was charged with a similar offence in respect to pictures of “ Psychd’s Bath ” and “ Psyche at Nature’s Mirror.” Evidence was given by the matron of the Door of Hope and two Salvation representatives, who condemned the picture. A number of prominent men. including journalists, clergymen, and teachers of art, gave evidence for the defence,, stating the pictures were works of art. in which every element of indecency had been excluded. District Judge Kettle reserved his decision.
