VALEDICTORY.
A valedictory social and presentation was tendered to ColourSergeant Overend by the officers and members of the local cadet corps in the old schoolhouse last evening. Captain and Mrs Hamer were the leading spirits in the movement. There was a full muster of the corps last night supplemented by a large number of friends. All kinds of indoor games were indulged in interspersed with vocal items and dancing. During the evening Capt Hamer, on behalf of the corps and friends, in a eulogistic speech presented the guest of the evening with a travelling bag, to mark the esteem in which he is held. Lieut. Hickson briefly responded on behalf of the recipient. Cheers were called for and heartily responded to. Refreshments were handed round and a most enjoyable time spent. Cadet Color-Sergt Overend, who has been in the local employ of Messrs Levin and Co., has been transferred to the firm’s Wellington office. He is a promising lad and the best wishes of his many friends follow him in his new sphere of labor.
