The Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, SEPT 22, 1906. FOXTON-SANSON MAIL SERVICE.
A petition is shortly to be circulated for signatures in the borough and district between Foxton and Sanson to be presented to the Postmaster General praying for a direct daily mail service between the port and Sanson. The petition refers to the great increase in population in the county during recent years; that Foxton is the port and natural outlet for the district; that there is no mail service between Himatangi and Makowhi (a distance of eleven miles) and the latter is now only served by a triweekly service ; a post office is urgently needed at Oroua Downs, which also can be served by the proposed Foxton - Sanson route without extra cost. The petition sets out that the existing mail service need not necessarily be interfered with. The suggested service would give an earlier delivery of mails, provide direct communication with Wellington via Foxton and Levin and supply places along the tramway route, which are now without a service of any kind, with mails. We hope. townspeople will do all in their power to assist the settlers in getting their wants attended to.
We believe the County Council is prepared to do its part in running the daily service, and it now only remains for the Minister to accede to the prayer of ttye petitioners, That, postal facilities in the County need urgent attention is apparent, but unless the settlers are prepared to battle for themselves things will remain as they are for years to come.
