A Well-deserved Sentence.

Hokitika, September 21

At the Supreme Court to-day Mr Justice Edwards delivered the following sentences : R. Raymond, alais Lawson, pleaded guilty to attempted rape on a married woman in a street in Westport, and was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment with hard labor, and three floggings each of twenty lashes ; F. Cameron, anew arrival in the colony, pleaded guilty forging and uttering a cheque for and was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment with hard labor; W. Harvey, jnr., for stealing amalgam to the value of the property of the Consolidated Company at Reeftou, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labor.
