WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING, By Telegraph—Special to Wanganui. This Day. The monthly meeting of the Board was held yesterday. All members were present. The Chief Inspector’s recommendation to establish a board library and standard literature for reference purposes was adopted and thirty pounds was voted for this purpose. Mr Pirani moved and Mr Fraser seconded that Mr Gilbert Carson be elected chairman of the board of governors for the girls college.— Carried. Mr W. S. Stewart’s resignation was accepted, and applications for the vacancy are to be invited at once. The Minister of Education and several members of Parliament are to •visit Wanganui on the occasion of the opening of the new engineering and woodwork class rooms at the technical school on 29th September. The application of a teacher for a refund of the amount expended on the residence at Rongotea was granted. The Board decided to adhere to its previous decision re removal of Mr Jenks from Foxton to Bulls. The motion by Mr Fraser that •in future the Board meet twice monthly was supported by Messrs Bennett, Guthrie and Purnell. The chairman said if the motion was carried he would resign. Mr Fraser, in his reply regretted the stand taken by* the chairman as in a previous conversation he had raised no objection to the motion. The voting resulted in the motion being lost by five to four. Mr Bennett gave notice to move that the Board pay exchange on teachers cheques.
