PARLIAMENT.
TUESDAY. Several bills were read a first time ; the Horowhenua Block Act Amendment Bill, Fire Brigades Bill, Payment of Jurors, Stamps Act Amendment, Habitual Criminals were committed ; Juvenile offenders Bill passed its third reading; Advances to Settlers second reading was adjourned. WEDNESDAY. The Contingent Vote Bill (Mr Lewis) was read a first time, The afternoon was taken up with discussion on Ministers’ replies to questions. Sir William Steward moved the second reading of his Ballot-Card Voting Bill. There was no debate and the second reading was agreed to on the voices. The debate on the second reading of the Legislative Council Election Bill occupied three hours. The reading was agreed to. Mr R. McKenzie’s Noxious Weeds Act Amendment Bill (compelling local authorities to clear lands and roads under their control, provided that the weeds may not reasonably be supposed to have spread from an adjoining property) was read a second time on the voices. The House rose at n.iop.m.
