COMMITTEE MEETING. A committee meeting of the Foxton Athletic Club was held in the Manawatu Hotel on Tuesday evening. Mr Shadbolt presided, and there were present Messrs Baker, Jillett, Howe, Martin, Eawton, Wilson, Sutherland and the secretary. The deputation which waited on the Council re improvements to the track reported that the Council did not intend to spend any money on improvements, The action of the Council was adversely criticised and the following resolution was passed, ‘ ‘ That the amount stated by the Mayor at the Council meeting as having been spent on the cycling and running tracks, viz., os 4d, during the past three years, is incorrect. ’ ’ It was explained that the greatest proportion of the expenditure mentioned by the Mayor had not been spent on the track, but in other directions at the Park. East year the club spent ,£23 9s 6d on improvements to the track, the Council spending a like amount. Members argued that the ground was the property of the Council and any reasonable permanent work required should be carried out by that body, which received 10 per cent, of the gate money on sports day. It was also stated the Palmerston Friendly Societies sports, held annually on the ground did nothing to put the track in order, and only allowed the Council 10 per cent, of the gate money. It was thought that the local club were not being treated fairly by the Council. The following resolution was also carried: That considering the work is urgently needed the club put track in repair in expectation of receiving a refund from the Council after that body has given the matter the consideration it merits.” It was also decided to run a special train from Feilding, the club gauranteeing the Department and it was also decided to advertise the programme in the “Fielding Star.” It was also decided to affiliate with the Fielding centre of the Athletic Union.
