Josephine and Bonaparte.

AN INTERESTING EETTER. The Temps (Paris) publishes the following letter, which is said to have been written by Josephine to Bonaparte during the Consulate. This document, which is shortly to be offered for sale, is dated Saint Cloud, le 26 brumaire (An XI., 13th November, 1802), and the text is as follows : “ All my troubles have disappeared in reading your dear, touching letter, which is full of sweet expressions of your tenderness for me. How kind it is of you to give up so much of your time for your Josephine ! If you only know, you would be pleased with yourself at being able to give so great a joy to the wife you love. “ A letter is the portrait of the soul, and I press this one against my heart—it does me so much good ! I shall keep it for ever, and it will be my consolation during your absence, my guide when I am near you, for I wish to be in your eyes always the good and tender Josephine, who thinks solely of your happiness. “ If a spasm of joy reach your soul, or if a momentary sadness trouble you, let it be in the heart of your friend that your happiness and your sorrows find a reflection. That you should not have a sentiment that I do not share is my desire—l subordinate everything to the wish to please you and •make you happy. , “ Adieu. Bonaparte. I shall not forget the last words of your letter, which have entered into my heart, and are deeply graven there. Yes, my desire is also to please and love—-or rather adore you.—Josephine.”
