The Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, SEPT 6, 1906. RUNNING THE CUTTER.
A resident was yesterday fined los and costs at the local Court for procuring liquor whilst .a prohibition order was in existence against him. We feel sorry for those unfortunates who have not sufficient will power to overcome the craving for liquor. Such individuals are entitled to our pity. But we feel a loathing for the unscrupulous individuals who satisfy the cravings of the unfortunate dipsomaniacs who are prohibited by ‘ ‘ running the cutter. ’ ’ We are sure that our local hotelkeepers have too much consideration for the law and for the good name of their houses to serve any prohibited ones, and they cannot question individuals not prohibited who buy a bottle of liquor. We give a timely warning to persons procuring liquor for prohibited •persons that they are liable to very heavy penalties and imprisonment without the option of a fine for their conduct, and the sooner they cease this practice the better. 1 ( j
