Lost in the Bush.
A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Hamilton, Sept. 5. A man name! Holden had a very trying experience in the bush in the King Country during the past two or three weeks. He had just finished a job some twenty miles below Tuamarunui, and started to walk into the township. He missed £he track, ran out of food, subsisting for two weeks and five days on fern roots and leaves. He became incapable of walking and was forced to take refuge under a tree. Fortunately another traveller, who had lost his way, stumbled upon Holden in his refuge. A comparison of notes gave the newcomer some idea of his bearings, and he set off for help, reaching Mr Skeate’s No. 9 survey camp, from which a party of six set out at once after Holden, who was discovered. With great difficulty the rescuers carried him on their shouldes for five miles, where a stretcher was requisitioned, and a journey of sixteen miles to Taumarunui was commenced. On his arrival in the Waikato Hospital Holden was found to be suffering trora the effects of starvation. His legs and feet are in a dreadful state, and it is doubtlul if his limbs can be saved.
