Using Obscene Language.

On Saturday night at about ti p.m. Constable Whitehouse arrested a well-dressed native named Joe King for having used obscene language in front of Mr Perreau’s bakery. Yesterday morning he was brought before Messrs Dr Bennett and Alf, Fraser, J.’sP., and pleaded guilty to the charge. Constable Whitehouse stated in evidence that accused was partly under the influence of liquor and was very excited. He had been in to supper at Perreau’s, and when he came out his bicycle was missing. He asked a man if he had seen the bicycle, and the individual questioned replied by striking the native in the eye, the mark from which- was still apparent. Dr Bennett: Does accused know the man who struck him ? Constable Whitehouse stated that accused could identify him. The constable, continuing, said that accused had great provocation, and there was nothing previous against him. Fined £1 or seven days. The fine was paid.
