School Committee.

The ordinary meeting of the above was held in the schoolhouse last evening. Present Messrs Clemett (chairman), Rev. Wilson,, R. T. Betty, G. Coley, and G. Gray (acting secretary).

The' minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Accounts amounting to 6s 5d were passed for payment. The headmaster’s report stated that the average attendance for last month was 22q'6 and the roll number 276. Owing to sickness the attendance was not up to the usual average. The report informed the cummirtee that Mr Stewart had notified the Board of his intention to retire from the service at the end of the year and requesting the Board to grant him six months leave of absence on full pay. The report further stated that Miss McDonough had been appointed to the Campbell street school, Palmerston North, and Mr L- Jenks to the Bulls school, both changes to take effect at the end of the present month. The report was received. The committee passed the fol - lowing resolution : That the committee of the Foxton State School regret to hear that Mr Stewart, the head master, contemplates resigning his position at the end of the present year, and in consideration of his long services ami excellent passes he has always obtained we consider that he is fully entitled to six months leave of absence on lull pay from the beginning of fthe year. This, we think, Would be a kindly consideration of his long and faithful services, a cop} r ofthis resolution, to be sent to the Board.—Carried unanimously. Several of the members spoke in eulogistic terms of the headmaster.

It was resolved that Miss McDonough’s resignation be receive and the committed hope that th new appointment will be to he 1 satisfaction.

Resolved that, Mr Jenks’ letter re his son be transmitted to th Board for favourable consideration. It was resolved that arrangements for the lecture on agricultural science by Mr Jas. Grant be left in the hands of the chairman.
