COURTHOUSE AND POST OFFICE.
The Foxton Courthouse like the Post Office is a structure of great antiquity, and is by no means an ornament to the town. The interior of this extraordinary looking building is very primitive with its dingy looking walls and the furniture —if one can call the ricketty tables covered with torn American cloth, by such a name —is an absolute disgrace to one of His Majesty’s Courts of Justice. Surely the time has arrived when the claims of our people should receive consideration at the hands of the Department. The primitive appointments at the Post Office should also be brought under the notice of the PostmasterGeneral. Persons desiring to deposit or withdraw sums of money have no privacy. The transaction is done at the public counter under the glare of people waiting to transact postal or telegraphic business. Most people object to transacting private business in such a manner. Considering the large amount of business that is transacted by our most estimable postmaster and his staff and the amount of revenue that has been derived from the local office, we would urge upon the member for the district the necessity of getting a sum placed on the estimates for the improvement or re-erection of the building.
