— OPENING OF THE ROPE WORKS. COMMITTEE’S LETTER TO BOARD. A REBUKE. |*BY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL TO HERALD | Wanganui, This Day. At last night’s meeting of the Wanganui Education Board the following letter was read from the Chairman Eoxton .School Committe:—“l have to bring under your notice an incident that occurred in the school here on the 16th inst., the occasion was the opening of the rope and binder twine works and the member for the district was to perform the ceremony, and the School Committee thought that if the children could be shown over the works it would be an object lesson for them, and the Managing director was approached and he courteously consented and promised to stop the machinery and have the whole system explained to the children. The head-master was then approached and he readily acquiesced and promised the children at the works at 2 p.m. At 1.50 p.m. the Chairman received notice from the headmaster that the teachers had declined to accompany the children to the works and the proposal- had to be abandoned. The committee view the matter very strongly and would like an expression ...of opinion from the Board on the matter.” Alter the matter had been explained by Mr Eraser r it was- resolved : ‘‘Tint the disapproves very strongly oi the altitude taken up by the teachers* and’ that the resolution be forwarded to teachers.” 1
