HOROWHENUA REPS. (3) v. FOXTON (0), The return match between the above reps, was spiritedly contested and produced an even and exciting display. It was mainly a forward exhibition, and perhaps Foxtou had a little the best of it. Neither side preferred to open the game up at all, and it was cerf tainly not a good game from a spectator’s point of view. Foxton played without the services of McNae, Broad, Jeffries, Desmond, Richardson and Williams, while Potts and McKenzie were noticeable absentees from the Levin end. The locals are to be congratulated on the stand they made, which was in distinct contrast to the display at Levin a fortnight previous. Horowhenua won by three points (an unconverted try) to nil, though many unbiased authorities think a draw should have resulted, as indicating the true state of the game. For the winners, Rawiri, Curly, Bright, Cootes, Saxon, King, Parata and Chalk all worked well, while for Foxton, Shadbolt, Lambert, Coley, Tua Napier, Carroll, foe and Larkin were always 011 the move. Scott is adopting a foolish habit lately of attempting to do too much on his own. Reid, Wright, and Shea Shea were noticeable, while Marshall and Mack Royal did not feel at their best. Mr Sutherland refereed, and Messrs Jillett and a native held the flags. After the match, both teams sat down to dinner at the Manawatu Hotel, Mr H. Austin (chairman of the Foxton Sub-Union) presiding. After partaking of an appetising bill-of-fare, the following programme of toasts were honoured “The King ’’; “ The Horowhenua Rugby Union,” proposal by Mr 0. E. Austin, response by Mr Southey Fowler ; “ The Teams,” proposal by Mr Phipps, response by Captains Bright and Carroll; “The Foxton Sub-Union,” proposal by Southey Fowler, response by Mr'T 4 Sutherland ; “The Referee,” proposal by Mr Mcßain, response by Mr Sutherland ; “ The Chairman,” proposal by Mr Phipps, response by Mr H. Austin ; “ The Host and Hostess and Ladies,” proposal by Mr Collyns, response by Union secretary (in absence of Mr Shadbolt). During the evening songs were contributed by Messrs Rawiri, S. . Fowler and E. Sutherland, and a most convivial time concluded by all joining hands and singing “ Auld Lang Syne.” Mr Bert. Shadbolt played the piano accompaniments to vocul items. The Horowhenua party left shortly afterwards for home, amidst exchange of cheers. NOTES. Albions and Sandon meet tomorrow afternoon at quarter to two o’clock sharp.
