THE LIGHTING QUESTION. Council went into Committee to consider the question of lighting the Borough. Two different proposals came before Councillors to light the town by gas from influential companies, also a report from the Town Clerk on the working ol the Marton Borough Gasworks. However, we are bound to secrecy as to what transpired at that committee meeting, and therefore cannot place the proposals before readers. After going out of committee, it was resolved, on motion of Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Stiles, “That, the Town Clerk be instructed to take the necessary steps to approach the ratepayers re borrowing £7OOO for gas-works or granting the right of erecting to a company.” The matter of lighting the new Chambers was discussed, and on Cr Stiles’ proposition, seconded by Cr Baker, it was decided that sufficient Welshback lamps be procured to light the new Borough Chambers provided the Town Clerk approves of same. It was decided that a* special meeting of the Council be held on August 27th, when material will be put together to place before the meeting of ratepayers on the gasworks question.
