Foxton Athletic Club.

A meeting of the Committee ol the Foxton Athletic Club was held it the Manawatn Hotel on Thursday evening, when there were present —Messrs J. Frew (in the chair), M. Perreau, E. Healey, E. ■Sutherland, A. Shadbolt, F. Marfin, F. Lawton, F. Hadfield, and he secretary. Mr J. Thompson was appointed is an extra member to the comnittee. Mr Shadbolt, the Club’s delegate at the recent meeting of athletic representatives held at Feilcl:ng, explained that it was decided to form a New Zealand athletic issociation to govern cash athletics. The same rules as framed by the Invercargill body would be adopted. The club affiliation fee was ixed for clubs offering under (100 in prize money, and £2 for anything over that amount. The general opinion was that ;;ich an association would do much jood. The programme of events for the forthcoming meeting was drawn tp, and includes many alteration .0 last year. Acting on the suggestion of M Ihantion, h mdicappcr, it was dewled that the maiden event be made ocal, and the area was accordingly estrictcd to competitors within me Foxton football district. The boys and girls races were nade purely local. The invitation cycle event wa* ieleted, while the Coley Sheffield handicap was held over. Additional novelty races were iclnded, viz., a baby show fov labies under nine months, Cumberland wrestling, and grinning Through the horse collar, suggested by Mr Sutherland; also an obstacle race, suggested by Mr Perreau. The committee did not approve if the contentions advanced bv Messrs.' Sutherland and Shaclboli that horse or pony events should be added to the programme. Mr J. Jillett was appointed to canvass for trophies immediately. The three-mile cycle event was ■educed to one-and-a-half miles. Votes of thanks to the chair and to Mr Shadbolt for use of room concluded the business.
