Loyal Foxton Lodge.

Judging by the enthusiasm displayed at the initial meeting of the above lodge at the Masonic Hail on Tuesday evening, everything augurs well for the success of Oddfellowship in Foxton. There was a large attendance of local and visiting members ot the Order of the Manchester Unity, including representatives from Wanganui, Feilding and Palmerston. The Provincial Grand Master, Bro. Pawson, occupied the chair, and was supported in his duties by many visiting brethren of the Order.

It was finally decided that the Rodge be formed under the style of “The Royal Foxton Rodge.” In all, 52 Foxton candidates presented their doctors certificates, paid the- Accessary fees, were admitted'" ; conducted to the Rectur*’ ,er, and duly initiated into (.*. - mysteries ot Oddfellowship. P.P.G.M. Bro. Watson acted as Recture Master,

The election of officers to the local Order took place as follows : —- N.G., Bro. Ingram; V.G., Bro. Thompson ; secretary, Bro. Gardner; elective secretary, Bro. Dunn; G.M., Bro. Hickson ; supporters of N.G., Bros. Ashmore and Mudford ; supporters of V.G., Bros. Wilson and Cunningham; Guardian, Bro. Adams; warden, Bro. Hussey ; trustees, Bros. Healey and Osborne ; treasurer, H. F. Wilson ; auditors, Bros. Spelman and Irarie.

The different officers were then installed into their respective situations and accorded their honours bv C. S. Bro. Salek. ' It was decided that the meetings of the lodge be held each alternate Tuesday, the next meeting to be at the Masonic Hall on Tuesday, 14th Aug., when over 20 other new members are to be initiated. The ordinary lodge meeting then closed.

THE BANQUET,

At about half-past ten o’clock the lodge enthusiasts were joined by numerous townsfolk, including a few ladies, and all sat down to an excellent spread catered by Mr Mark Perreau. After the tasty edibles had been partaken of, an

enjoyable and instructive time was spent in verse, speech and song, and the time whiled away merrily. The newly installed N.G., : - Bro. Watson; “ The Installing Officer,” proposed by Bro. Hickson, response by Bro. Watson; “Wanganui District,” proposed by Bro. Gardner, response by the Wanganui Brethren present; “1 he Visitors, proposed by Bro. Ingram, response by Bros. 'Green, Mowlem and another; the “ Lo) r al Foxton Lodge” was toasted, and Bros. Ingram, F. Dunn, and Gardner responded; “The Ladies, proposed by Bro. Hadfield, response by a lady present; “The Press,” proposed by Mr Middleton, and response by Mr Sutherland. Songs were rendered during the evening by Messrs J. Middleton, R. Hickson, R. Quick, Adock, and F. Sutherland ; a trombone solo by Mr Baskeville ; a double-bass solo by Mr Hickson ; whistling, bone and mouth-organ selections by Mr Bert Ingram ; and a comic reading, “Mark Twain’s Visit to a Barber’s Shop,” by Mr F. Hill. The gathering broke up with the singing of ‘ 1 Aukl Lang Syne in the early hours of the morning.
