Foxton Improvements.
The Brethren are to be coiW gratulated on the possession of such a first-class meeting hall where they hold spiritual service each Sunday. This property, only recently erected by Mr Andrew Jonson (carpentering con* tractor), is certainly appropriately finished and fitted up tor the purpose it wasjintended. Inside, the buildiug has seating accommodation for- about 130 people, being 35 feet by 28, while this spacioui meeting house is connected with another Sunday Schoolroom 28 x 20. These two rooms are separated by removeable diagonal shutters, which can be removed on special occasions, and so nearly 300 people could be seated In the one room when necessity demands. The building is beautifully lined, and being of red pine and matai, the speaker has no trouble in controlling his voide. The sounding powers are perfect —a person has only to talk slightly and his voice will carry from one end to the other. The seating forms are comfortable, while patent ventilators (patented by Mr A. Jonson, contractor) are in use throughout the building. The windows work easily with patent fastenings, and the complete inside is thoroughly varnished. At the rear of the schoolroom is a building, which is to be used for the erection of acetylene gas-house ; also for boiler and wash-stand, which will be utilised for tea-meetings, picnic parties, &c. This boiler will be supplied by a 400 gallon tank erected outside and connected by pipes. Throughout the building nine lights in all are fitted, so there should be no complaint on the score of lighting. Mr Gus Walsh acted as archil tect, Mr Andrew Jonson (carpeng tering contractor) carried out th« general contracting, while Mr Jenks superintended the painting. The whole building, has been erected at Mr W. Jupp’s expense, and he deserves credit for his enterprise in thus catering for the Brethren. The highest compliment that could be paid those connected with the work was paid by Mr Jupp, who has expressed himself®* more than pleased with the effect - tiveness of their labours.
