HOROWHENUA (18) v. FOXTON (3). Horowhemia deserve all credit for their win against Foxton at Levin on Saturday last, but the mints by no means give a fair indication of the game. The Southerners were no doubt the best team on the day, and while do Sot attempt to make excuse, with reliability we assert Foxton had a day off, so far as football „oes. From the outset Foxton aggressed momentarily, but it was osfe spasmodic, and as a result of good following up, Richardson dribbled over the line and scored eaS y try for the visitors within one minute of the commencement. These three points lead in Foxton’s favour must have given Foxton an idea they had things til their own way, for they became Sluggish, and over afterwards were

at the mercy of the strongly attacking Horowhennas, both backs and forwards. By smart following up, Pacey registered two tries and Parata one before half-time. Two of these were right between the posts, and goals resulted. Foxton backs were responsible for poor displays, while the forwards were hardly holding their own—in distinct contrast to their exposition at Palmerston recently. Richardson was put back to help the weak defence, and after this things went better for Foxton. Foxton forwards had the better of the game in the second half, but though they threatened seriously, no score eventuated. Rawiri (Horowhenua) sent a ball down field towards the close of the game, and beating Perewhit'badly, followed up and scored, from which a goal was kicked. There was nothing further of interest. For the winners Rawiri, Cook, Bright, Pacey, King, Potts, Saxon, and Parata deserve mention, while all their backs and forwards alike played with combination. The whole team proved themselves creditable for great following up—a circumstance which undoubtedly won the game. Foxton had a day off, but that does not clear them entirely from blame, and if they would make a name for themselves, they will have to be more consistent in their different displays. As to the backs, Coley (at full) started off feebly, but improved as the game wore on; Tua Napier played a J solid game, but of Perewhit, the isast Said the better ; his display was certainly in distinct contrast to his last exhibition in Foxton. He had gained many eulogies then, but his display on Saturday last even lost him the confidence of his most ardent admirers. D. Tatana did not attempt to find the line—one of his strong points; Carroll did nothing silly, but did not do much good; while Scott, though solid in defence, relied toe much to himself in attack. Richardson was a fair man. As to the forwards, McNae and Shadbolt were head and shoulders above the rest. Desmond, Larkin, and Marshall, were perhaps the best of the others. Generally, the pack did not show the combination they distinguished themselves with at Manawatu. Mr Mcßain referred, while Messrs Broughton and Sutherland acted as touch-judges. After the match, both teams sat down to dinner at the Levin Hotel, as guests of the Horowhenua Union, and were right royally entertained. Many appropriate toasts were enthusiastically honoured, and the natives present (led by Davey Tatana) _ considerably enlivened proceedings by contributing Maori hakas.

NOTES. It is quite probable Horowbenua will play a return match at Foxton shortly. There is a possibility of Foxton being visited by Golden Bay reps this season. Indies will be admitted free to the Manawatu rep. match next Saturday. The oft-arranged Huia-Sandon junior match takes place in Foxton at i o’clock sharp next Saturday. Manawatu team against Wairarapa at Palmerston to-morrow: — Full, Hughes ; three-quarters, B. Webb, Taylor, Goodbehere ; fiveeight, Mack Royal ; half, Hing ; wings, Munro, McNae ; forwards, Dilks, Read, Smith, Whisker, Shadbolt, Collis, and Swainson. Emergencies Backs, Campbell and Hammer; forwards, Ward and Black. Stalker and Ongley are not available. Thus “Follow-up” in the Manawatu Times, referring to the Manawatu rep. selection : Foxton’s new addition Perewhit not available ? This player has a great reputation in North Canterbury for which district he played as a five-eighth representative this season. He is clever, resourceful, a sure kick, and as slippery as a hunted hare. There is not his equal as five-eight in Manawatu.” This football scribe cannot be aware of the fact that the Manawatu selector witnessed the Horo-whenua-Foxton game at Levin on Saturday, when Perewhit gave a cruel exhibition. Perewhit was a veritable champion before Saturday last; now he is a nonentity. And no sane man could have put him in any rep team on Saturday’s play. Albion team to-morrow will be picked from the following : Cook, Broad, Webb, Howan, Cummerfield, Williams, Klein, Shadbolt, Cole, Overend, Furrie, Read, Whibley, Walker (2), Edwards, Evans, Flint, J. Webb, Dickson and Imrie. All above are requested to roll up to practice at the Public Hall to-night. Following team has been chosen to represent Foxton against Manawatu next Saturday Full-back, W. Coley; % Tua Napier, Scott,

Richardson ; 5-Bths, Mack Royal and Carroll; half, J. Dunn; wing forward, McNae; forwards, Desmond, Jeffries, Larkin, Marshall, Shadbolt, Newth, Broad. Emergencies ; Tom Napier and A’Court (backs), Sanson, Williams, and Wright (forwards). Albions play Huia on the racecourse at 3 o'clock to-morrow.
