B. A COBEY CUP. AWAHOU v. SANDON The E. Coley Cup competition match between the above teams at the racecourse yesterday drew a fair crowd of spectators. Both had fairly strong teams, and a good exhibition was witnessed, Awahou commenced operations with a strong sun in their eyes, which hampered them considerably in the first spell, during which there was a noticeable tendency to make the play a bit rough. No score resulted, though when ends were changed, Awahou looked like it on several occasions, but all efforts proved futile. Awahou had one or two chances to place goals from kicks, but they did not possess the material to distinguish themselves. Sandou’s game was in distinct contrast to their exhibition of a fortnight previous when they were easily defeated by a weak Awahou team. Amongst Sandon, George, Hartley, Gibbs, Mclntyre, the wings and other forwards I dont know the names of, all worked well. Awahou had good workers in Spelman, Wilson and Osboldstone, while Brittan seems to know just what to do. Bales, Bogue, AnIresen, Broughton, Riggs, and Coley all got in some serviceable work. There was something wrong in the scrum. The game ended in a draw, no score.' Mr Sutherland refereed, while Messrs Cameron and Desmond acted as line umpires,' Positions in Championsips.
