GUEST OF THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT. New York, July 7. On reaching New York Sir Joseph Ward was met by Mr Roosevelt’s carriage, bv which the visitor was conveyed to Sagamore Hill, where he lunched with the President. In the course of an interview at Oyster Bay, Sir Joseph Ward retereed to New Zealand’s surplus wool and kauri gum. He stated that he was able to negotiate a reciprocity treaty with the United States without reference to Britain. He was prepared to take the preliminary steps, and on his departure leave the matter in the hands of the British Embassy. The leading editors of New York gave a luncheon in honour of Sir Joseph Ward at the Waldorf Hotel. Sir Joseph Ward discussed with the editors and leading citizens the question of reciprocity in the natural product of America and New Zealand.
