Attempted Suicide at Ashurst
An elderly married woman named Ellen Paukhurst, a resident of Aslihurst, attempted 'to commit suicide about 12.30 901 Monday by cutting iter throat with a large table knife. She was discovered soon afterwards in an outhouse at the rear by her husband. He was the only other person in the house and is stone deaf. Dr Stowe was called in from Palmerston, arriving at Ashhurst at 3.30. He at once sewed up the gash and ordered her ter moval to the Hospital. She was brought in by Constable O’Halloran. When the constable arrived at the house the woman was lying on a sofa and bleeding profusely. She was asked why she had done it and replied “ Everyone is down on me ; they won’t come to see me.”—Standard.
