Don’t fail to visit Deane Dnvran, the groat American Salesman now holding sales in Foxton. There is on view in Mrs Hamer’s window in Main street a beautiful silver cup, presented to the local Defence Cadets for shooting competition. The trophy is bound to bo keenly sought after. At the local school-house last evening, a largo number of ladies and gentlemen accepted the invitation of Mrs Stewart and Miss McMillan to attend a euchre party. A mo-t enjoyable evening was spent in cards, and later on vocal Items wore rendered with much success. The invitation euchre and dance party given by Mr and Mrs W. Barber, Mr and Mrs 11. H. Barber, and Mrs J, Barber at the Masonic Hall on Tuesday evening last, was largely attended by their many friends from all parts of the district. Cards -wore indulged in until about 11 o’el ek, when dancing enjoyment'concluded .the affair, Mr Berthold ; upplyingjdu; music. Souk; person was idiotic enough to smash the window of Mr Wright, bootmaker, the other evening. Probtbly the affair was the result of a drunken prank, but it would be a sorry prank for the individual, if caught. We do not know if any footgear was stolen, though one boot was picked up on the footpath.

A cable message received in England from Baltimore, U.S.A., announces that Mr Sidney H. Godfrey, of Devonshire, has won the world’s championship for speed at the international shorthand contest. He is credited with the ability t(f write continuously at the rate of 250 words per minute. American writers were quite outclassed. As to-day and Monday are the two last days of G. H. Stiles'’ sale, the proprietor wishes it known that trimmed millinery, jackets, furs, children’s millinery, macs, flannel ihousings, etc., will be almost given away during_ the balance of sale. Anyone, requiring these goods are asked to enquire-for quotations. The shop will be closed ■ m Monday and-Tuesday next to complete stock-taking. The Te Aute-Wangamii College football matches, at Palmerston Showgrounds yesterday attracted thousands of people, and served !o popularise the people's d vy, Wanganui wm the junior event by 13 points to 8, Rev. Harper referee. The Te Aute seniors defeated Wanganui by 24 points to nil, Mr Manning referee, .The play in the senior game was of a high order, the brilliant and combined passing rushes of the Te Aute backs earning much applau; e and kudos. Had it been a perfectly dry day there is no telling what score the Maori backs would have registered. If their backs are allowed to get in motion, they may defeat all N.Z, College combinations this season.
