Sydney, June 16

The wheelers’ strike at Wallsend has concluded, and work will be resumed on Monday at an advance in wages.

Mr Jenkinson, of Auckland, obtained several prizes, and Mr Leedham (Auckland) and Mr DeLissa (Christchurch) were also successful at the Broken Hill photographic exhibition. Melbourne, June 16.

At a bye-election for Barwon, despite his strenuous efforts, the Labor candidate was beaten by Mr Farrer, a Ministerialist. Mr Steyn, brother of expresident Steyn, with two other farmers of Orangia, has arrived to inspect the stations and purchase sheep for restocking purposes in that colony.

Mr Steyn states it will probably be two years before South Africa can produce its own meat supply. As to political-affairs there was no danger in granting responsible government. There was complete friendship between the British and the Boers.
