British Officers Assaulted.

Cairo, June 15

While a body of British troops were marching from Cairo to Alexandria, five officers entered a village near Tantah to shoot pigeons. An official instigated the villagers to surround them with guns and assault them with bludgeons. Captain Bull, of the Inniskillings, succumbed to injuries received, and two other officers were badly hurt. Eight Egyptian villagers were wounded in the affray with the officers. Six have been arrested. London, June 15. The Daily Mail’s Cairo correspondent states the village notables invited officers to pigeon shooting. The villagers interfered and tried to disarm the officers. The threshing floor at that moment happened to take fire, the natives unjustiably blaming the attacking officers. Many arrests were made. An inquiry has been opened.
