THE E. A. COLEY CUP.

HUIA (13) v. AWAHOU (8)

Yesterday afternoon, Huia defeated Awahou by 13 points to 8. The former had a fair looking team, but the latter were a weird looking side, and it is a wonder they made a stand at all. More the honour. Geo. Bales captained the losers, and with Geo. Coley, Jillett, Bogue, Spelman, and Reid, put in some good work at times. For the winners Davis the captain played some good football, while Pony Saville was perhaps the best man on the ground. The forwards we cannot individualise. Mr J. Furrie referred. SANDON (6) v. ALBION (o). (Contributed.) This match was played in heavy showers of rsiu and on a heavy ground. There was a fair number of spectators, and the game was interesting throughout. Albion ’won the toss, and elected to...play with a slight breeze. From the kick off Sandon mulled and Albion pressed hard, keeping Sandon penned in their 25. From a scrum K. Furrie got possession, and beating two men smartly, looked a moral to score, but a high punt and a force down lost the chance.

In the second spell, both Sandon and Albion made strenuous efforts to score, and it looked as if nothing would stop the dogged and determined rushes of the Sandon forwards, but Albions set up a defence that would do credit to any senior ten in. Condition eventually told, and as in the Huia-Sandon match, the Albions were defeated in the last six minutes. From a line out Hartley dashed over the line with half the green and whites hanging on. The referee blew his

whistle, and after the players had disentangled, he gave it a fair try. The shot at goal was a very poor attempt. From the kick out Hartley returned to Albion's 25, and from a loose scrum R. Carroll got possession and registered Sandon’s second try. The kick at goal was a good one, the ball just swerving on the posts, From the kick out Sandon found the line with a good punt, and the game ended Sandon 6, Albion nil. Mr Yf. Crowther made a very efficient and obliging referee, while G. Dunn (Albion) and Carroll (Sandon) held the touch Hags.

C. Rimmer showed out a lot above the Albion forwards and was perhaps the best man on the ground. Dan Whibley, Mick Cooke, C; Ctimmerfield, Broad and Webb were thorough grafters while in the backs all worked well and did their best with a greasy ball.

The Sandon forwards all worked well-. In backs Thompson, R. Carroll and Hartley undoubtedly won the match for Sandon. It is rumoured that Albion are going to protest against Sandon on tne grounds of playing two seniors against them, to wit, Thompson and Hartley. Much thanks are due to the kindness of Mr and Mrs Morse in supplying drink and eatables to the Foxton boys.
