Foxton Lawn Tennis Dance

Although the weather was anything but favourable for the Foxton Dawn Tennis Club’s dance, still a goodly number of lovers of dancing graced the Public Flail floor last evening, and tripped it gaily till the early hours of the morning. There were amongst those present a few visitors from other parts. The hall had been gaily decorated with bunting, flags, etc., while tennis bats had been attached to the walls in a significant manner. The floor had been worked up well, and as the evening wore on, became in perfect order. Mr Berthold (piano) provided the music in his usual practical style, whilst Misses Flay wood and May Laing received well deserved applause for contributing extra waltzes. The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Messrs Alf. Fraser and 0. Austin, who were courteous in their duties. It would be invidious to describe the many lovely dresses worn by the ladies. Suffice it to say, no matter what direction of the ball room the eye was cast good taste and colour were plainly evident. Many of these dresses were beautifully charming. A strong committee of tennis club ladies carried out the supper arrangements (this particular department of the affair being well catered for), and to all those who assisted in providing the many good things the thanks of the committee are due. Those deserving of special mention for having materially assisted in bringing the dance to such a successful issue include; Misses Austin (2), H. Collins, Webber, Symons, Laing, Furrie, P. Fraser, Mrs C. Robinson, and Messrs O. Austin, O. Robinson, and W. Main waring. Mr E. Marshall marie a courteous secretary.

During the evening, the presentation of trophies won at times during the year were made privately, viz : —A dressing case (donated by Mr E. Marshall) to Miss Wanklyn ; and a silvermounted walking stick (donated by Mrs Austin, sen.) to Mr L- J. Fnrrie. MrJ. Furrie accepted the latter gift on behalf of his brother (absent). These were the prizes won in the double tournament.
