<► ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Foxton Chaml.r of Commerce yesterday evening was fairly well attended.

. The President, Mr G. A. Simpson, gave a short opening address, in which he reviewed the work of the Chamber during the year and emphasized the necessity of the business public generally support ing the efforts ot the Chamber to secure various requirements for the district and township by requisitioning various Governmental Departments. The secretary's report was read and adopted, and also the statement of accounts, which showed a small excess of expenditure ove; receipts. The following executive was elected for the ensuing year;—President : Mr G. A. Simpson j Vice-President: Mr F. W. Frankland ; Secretary : R. Moore; Committee ; Messrs M. Perreau, C. L. Barnard, S. Hickson, _ Herston Fraukland, and 0. Austin ; Auditors: L. W. Wilson and T. Haywood.

A somewhat remarkable unwillingness was displayed by members to allow themselves to be nominated for positions on the executive, and it was only after a considerable amount of difficulty in each case that the officers named were secured. # . One member declared this to be due to the lack of interest Jtaken in the institution, and no doubt with a little more public support, less unwillingness to take official positions would be shown.

Various questions were discussed, amongst them the advisability or otherwise of getting e Harbour Board instituted, recommendations for the consideration of the new Council were made.

At the conclusion of the meeting the Chairman again urged the necessity of pushing on without discouragement the various projects which had so far been entertained by the Chamber, and of not ceasing to put forth effort until the desired abjects were attained. The report is held over.
