The Winter Show.
POULTRY OPPORTUNITIES
An important feature at the Winter Show, Palmerston North is the Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Show of the Manawatu Poultry Association affiliated with the North Island Poultry Association. The prize list is to hand from Mr J. C. Lane, Secretary, Palmerston North, for perusal and there is no mistaking the genuine open handed support afforded the exhibitor in the Poultry and Water fowl division prizes; for ten entries the first prize is rss ■second 10s, third 4s, with a large number of cash specials ol £1 and £1 10S. One’s eye is attracted by the North Island Poultry Association’s Championship Prizes also the N.Z. Wyandotte Club special Of £l2 X2S. Last year the total entries made upwards of 1200 exhibits and with the indications of support given to the Show for June next, 9000 square feet has been set apart. Poultry has perhaps only received little more than passing attention in the past, but a change must be coming, there is profit in poultry that the ben and her products will be no longer overlooked. This Colony according to the N.Z. Year Book, for six months of 1903, imported eggs tithe value of and for the twelve months of 1904 eggs to the tune of ,£3467 which might have been wholly produced in New Zealand. There is the disposal ot birds for market according to a large buyer the average price for Umbirds suitable for the table for the last six mouths runs about 50 per lb and the weight per pair 7 to lolbs. .Surely there must be an awakening to the possibilities of the industry and to the all round progress that will follow.
