School Committee.
A meeting of the Foxton School Committee was held at the Borough Council Chambers last evening, there being present- —Messrs A. D. Clemett (in the chair), H. Austin, G. Gray, C. L. Barnard, T. Betty, G. Coley and and L. W. Wilson (secretary). ■ The secretary apologised for the absence of Mr F. W., Frankland. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Proposed by Mr Clemett, seconded by Mr Barnard, That a subcommittee consisting of Messrs G. Cray, L. Wilson and Austin, be appointed to visit school ground, re horse paddock. It was decided that prices of sawn rail fence for boundary be obtained before next meeting.
Mr J. W. Williams’ tender of ns 6d per week was accepted for school cleaning. Accounts with one or two exceptions were passed- for payment. Re a High School for Foxton, it was proposed by Mr Wilson, seconded by Mr Coley, That memmers of committee ascertain how many scholars were obtainable for said school.
On Mr Clemett’s proposal, seconded by Mr Barnard, it was carried, That a technical school ,vas a necessity in Foxton. It was further decided that the secretary write to the Borough Council asking for a subsidy towards technical school.
An offer from Capt. Hamer, o r £l2 per annum, for use of western room as drill-shed, was accepted. It was proposed by Mr Clemett, econded by Mr H. Austin, that Mr L. Wilson retain the secretaryship. Carried. "It was decided that all future ordinary meetings be held on the first Monday in every month.
The usual vote of thanks to the chair concluded the business.
