AWAHOU (3) v. POROTA-

WHAO (3).

Whatever the circumstances which led up to the wrangle at the racecourse on Saturday last, we are at a loss to determine, but the fact remains that the scratch contest between the above teams was conspicuous throughout for continuous ill-feeling extended by a few of the players on each side, which certainly was the cause of entirely spoiling the game from a spectators point of view. The referee seemed entirely unable to cope with the trouble. His repeated warnings were* .certainly taken notice of., by those players questioned, but fresh players would burst forth toward one another, the disorder being noticeable at intervals throrrghout. Barracking from the line was, at times, of a heated description ; and, in short, we don’t want'any more of Saturday’s doings. We do not intend to deal further with the matter, but trust that the advice of the referee at the conclusion of Saturday’s game will be acted upon, and all future matches played out in a friendly spirit. Otherwise there will be no football.

In justice to many of Saturday’s wrong-doers, we should mention that all of the aggressors have offered apology for their actions. It was fortunate for them last Saturday’s game was not _ a championship match, otherwise one or two examples would have been made. Some of them would have been compulsorily standing on the line.

The championship matches commence on Saturday next, when Awahou meet Sandon at Saadon, Mr G. Nicholson referee; and Oroua Bridge meet Porotawhao at Foxton, Mr C. Bowater referee.
