London, April 27.

In the House of Commons, a motion to cancel the Lord President of the Council’s salary, on the ground that the office was a sinecure, was negatived by 232 to 134. The Government was reminded of their pledges of economy. They declared Lord Crewe deserved the salary of ,£2OOO for representing the Board of Education in the House of Lords. The minority included twenty-one Nationalists present, all Mr Keir-Hardie’s followers, the Unionists, and five Liberals. The Times says that if the wh fie of Mr Sedmond’s followers we-e present the majority would have been below fortv.
